A Rose Beaded Elk Hide Purse

A Salish Elder from the Flathead Indian Reservation in Northwest Montana handcrafted this beautiful rose beaded elk hide purse. The Czechoslovakian #13 cut beads are contour in design.  The two roses represent "True Love" and are beaded with a shade red bead and the gold lined pedals give a model influence to the roses.  The white pearl luster of the background is beaded in the "Four Directions".  The geometric edges are lined with a silver red bead. 

The purse is 8 1/2 inches wide and 9 inches long.

The back of the purse

is made of Native American hand tanned elk skin and the inside is lined with calico cloth.
